Committee of subject experts set up by CBSE to look into class 12 math exams

The class 12 mathematics paper, held on March 14, had created a lot of stir among the students, teachers and parents, as they felt that not only was the paper difficult and lengthy, its pattern was also a little changed. Some students even alleged that the paper was leaked. However, the board officials and teachers rejected these claims. Some teachers said that similar sample questions were released by the Board days before the exam and the students were misinterpreting it as the leaked copy. However, as per media reports, other students claim that most of the questions in the leaked paper were similar to the questions in the actual paper and were written in the same sequence.

An online petition, started by a student from Guwahati, claiming leniency in evaluation of the maths paper has garnered 11000 signatures. As the paper had received a lot of criticism from students and teachers across the country and the following allegations that the paper had leaked the previous night, there was a demand for a re-test from some parts of the country.

Following complaints of “difficult and lengthy” math paper pattern, the Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) has set up a committee of subject experts to look into the matter. CBSE issued a circular that the feedback received from various stakeholders including students, subject teachers, examiners will be placed before the committee of subject experts and the board will take remedial measures before evaluation.

With the uproar about the 'IIT-standard' class 12 boards mathematics question paper, now all that students of class XII across the country want is leniency in evaluation as the paper was lengthy and tricky. Let us hope that government takes appropriate action sooner than later in the good interest of students...
